Brief Introduction to Yang-En University

Founded in 1987 by Yang-En Foundation (established by Mr. Wu Qingxing, a patriotic overseas Chinese,and his family), Yang-En University (YEU) is the very first private full-time regular institution of higher education established since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. YEU is qualified to award state certificates of undergraduate degrees and bachelor’s degrees. In 2008, YEU passed the assessment of the Undergraduate Teaching Level Evaluation by the Ministry of Education with fine performance, and became the first private university in Fujian Province that had passed the assessment of the Undergraduate Teaching Level Evaluation. YEU currently has 6 colleges, 5 direct departments, and 33 undergraduate majors, covering 7 major disciplines and categories, including economics, administration, arts, sciences, engineering, law, and philosophy. YEU has a management system with the President as the chief executive under the supervision of the board of directors; and its path of development is centered on connotative construction to continuously strive for quality improvement. Now, YEU is proudly striding ahead aiming at building an “open, modern, and international university”.
 
YEU’s campuses cover over 150 acres, surrounded by a beautiful landscape of mountains and rivers. There are state-of-the-art synchronous recording digitalized classrooms and multi-media computer language classrooms; the University also has a variety of specialist labs, including graphic design labs (equipped with Apple computers), audio labs, and computer supervisory control labs; moreover, YEU offers large-scale simulation training bases and practice teaching bases on and off campus; add to that, YEU is also equipped with a huge library to meet the needs of teaching and scientific researches, a culture and sports center accommodating 10,000 people at most, and abundant varieties of athletic fields.     
 
Since its establishment, YEU has adhered to the pedagogical philosophy of “people-oriented education and moral education first”, and guided by its motto "Learn to be an honest and upright person; Keep your word and work assiduously; Learn to handle affairs in order to gain success ", YEU has been continually exploring the laws of high moral values establishment and people cultivation to establish a human resources development system in a private university context, which can cultivate overall developed talents with morality, intelligence, health and aesthetic values. YEU has been successively awarded with honorable titles such as “China Federation of Returned Overseas Patriotism Education Base”, “Fujian Provincial Education System Patriotism Education Base”, “Fujian Provincial Party Development and Ideological and Political Education Progressive School”, “Fujian Provincial Safe Campus”, etc.      
 
YEU implements a talent cultivation mode that is based on liberal education, giving priority to a practical and innovative education, and characterized by broad-caliber discipline cultivation. YEU has established three major cultivation systems interconnected with each other, including course instruction, practical teaching, and quality development and innovative education. In 2012-2013 academic year, YEU had been awarded 1 Fujian provincial “the Twelfth Five-Year Plan” higher education experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 “Construction Projects of Provincial Practical Teaching Base for Cooperation between Enterprises and Universities”, 1 “Construction Project of Provincial Practical Teaching Platform for Public Fundamental Courses”, and 30 “Provincial Training Projects for University Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship”.
 
Students at YEU have actively participated in contests of various kinds and different levels, and repeated success in 2012-2013 academic year: YEU won first place at Southern China division and third place nationwide in the 16th “FLTRP·Amazon Cup" National College Students’ English Debating Competition; YEU students were awarded 2 silver medals and 4 copper medals for their excellent performance in the Chinese College Students Taekwondo Tournaments (southern China division); YEU won second place in Fujian Provincial Sand Table Simulation Contest; YEU won the championship of men’s singles in Fujian Provincial College Invitational Table Tennis Tournament for the second consecutive year; YEU won the first place of college students’ group in Quanzhou “Star of Outlook” Speech Contest, etc. YEU students’ summer social practical activities have also been reported by multiple provincial and municipal news media, receiving wide acclaim.   
       
YEU’s internationalized educational ideas have been driving the educational and teaching reforms of the University forward, keeping in step with world education. For years the University has been consistently and selectively hiring international experts and professors from America, the UK, Canada and so on to teach at YEU; the University has also signed cooperation and exchange agreements with many Taiwanese universities, including Da-Yeh University, Chaoyang University of Technology, Hsiuping University of Science and Technology, TransWorld University, and Toko University, which send groups of professors to YEU to teach on a regular basis; meanwhile, YEU has been developing cooperation and exchange programs with American and British universities on multi-levels and in multi-fields as well.      
 
 

Introduction to Majors
College of Management
 
College of Management at YEU is an important base focusing on practical undergraduate education, which cultivates applied innovative managerial talents with reasonable knowledge structure, strong practical abilities, high overall quality, innovative spirit and initiative of entrepreneurship. The college offers several undergraduate majors such as Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing, Business Administration, Marketing, Logistics Management, Human Resources Management, Public Administration and so forth, in which nearly 4000 students are currently enrolled. Since the first recruitment of undergraduate students in 1997, the college has produced a large number of qualified talents for the nation. Many graduates from the college are professionally active in fields of finance, management and so forth on the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits.
 
The college has a reasonably structured teaching faculty of high quality and standard, which is an integration of teachers with different years of teaching experiences. The college has organized and implemented “The Development Plan for College Backbone Young Teachers”, where young core teachers are sent to reputable universities in turn on and off shore as well as in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan for further study, and meanwhile, these teachers are also encouraged to pursue professional positions and practice in enterprises in order to enhance their professional quality and practical experience, and to build a strong teaching faculty with double qualifications.
 
The college has signed internship agreements with several enterprises and public institutions such as Gome Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd. , Minnan Branch of Wahaha Group, Majia Township Government and so forth to establish off-campus practice and internship bases for students.
 
The college has been actively developing a wide range of academic cooperation and exchange with Taiwanese universities and research institutions, and has established strategic partnerships with these organizations, in which courses and projects are built with mutual efforts. The Taiwanese experts and scholars’ participation in the administration and scientific research at the college has facilitated the improvement of teaching and management as well as the development of internationalization.                  
 
  • Business Administration
Students of Business Administration study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of management, economics and business administration, accept basic training of modern management methodology and techniques, and develop abilities to analyze and solve management issues.  
Cultivation Goals:
This discipline equips students with principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of modern business administration, modern management methods and measures, common practice and regulations in international business management. Graduates may find careers in modern enterprises (especially foreign-related enterprises), and some governmental institutions, engaging in relevant operating management, education and scientific research.     
 
  • Human Resources Management
Students of Human Resources Management study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of management, economics and human resources management, accept basic training of methods and techniques of human resources management, and develop abilities to analyze and solve issues in human resources management, applying various management technologies and modern information processing technologies.
Cultivation Goals:
This discipline aims at developing talents who possess principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of human resources management, human resources development, economics, management, politics and laws, understand the status quo and measures of human resources management, and have the abilities of innovation, organization and coordination. These talents can pursue careers in governmental institutions, enterprises and public institutions, engaging in human resources management, forecast, policy study, education and scientific research.   
 
  • Auditing
Students of Auditing study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of accounting, auditing, statistics, managerial finance and business administration, accept basic training of accounting and auditing practices, and develop abilities of auditing supervision, business financing and auditing problem solving. 
Cultivation Goals:
A graduate from Auditing is expected to master principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of management, economics, laws, accounting and auditing. He/She will understand the status quo of national auditing, be familiar with common practice of auditing in China, and national policies, laws and regulations of accounting and auditing.  Graduates have the potential to develop a career in industrial and commercial enterprises, economic and trade departments, foreign-related businesses, accounting firms and audit firms, engaging in auditing practice and financial management. 
 
  • Logistics Management
Students of Logistics Management study theories and practice of logistics management, and the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of economics and business administration, accept basic training of methodology and techniques of logistics management, and cultivates abilities to analyze and solve logistics management problems.
Cultivation Goals:
Students are provided with principle theories of economics and management, fundamental theories, methodologies and techniques of analyzing, designing, operating and managing modern logistics and supply chain systems, and knowledge of logistics process in enterprises’ production and operation. Graduates will be employed in enterprises, scientific research institutions and government departments, engaging in design and management of logistics, logistics system optimization, and operation and administration.
    
  • Marketing (Specialized in Internet Marketing and Management)
This is an university-enterprise constructing major whose students learn the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of Internet marketing, accept basic training of network technology, construction and management of e-commerce websites, and marketing optimization and management of searching engines, and develop basic skills of data mining, project management, Internet integrated marketing communication, and new media marketing, as well as abilities of analyzing online consuming behavior, applying statistical analyzing tools, applying organizational theories and designing.
Cultivation Goals:
This major produces talents who master excellent professionalism, fundamental knowledge and basic skills of modern marketing, and solid theoretical foundation of Internet marketing, and are familiar with various measures and methods of international marketing. In the field of Internet marketing, graduates can work in various e-commerce enterprises, IT enterprises, and traditional enterprises, engaging in applied marketing planning and project management of Internet marketing engineering. 
  
  • Accounting
Students of Accounting study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of accounting, auditing, and business administration, accept basic training of methods and techniques of accounting, and develop abilities to analyze and solve accounting problems.
Cultivation Goals:
Students of this discipline will be equipped with principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of management, economics, laws and accounting, current status of national financial accounting, common practice of international accounting, and policies, laws and regulations of accounting in the nation. They may find a job in business enterprises, economy and trade, foreign-related enterprises, accounting firms, and auditing firms, engaging in work of accounting practice.    

  • Financial Management
Students of Financial Management study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of financial management, accept basic training of methods and techniques of financial management, and develop abilities to analyze and solve financial problems.
Cultivation Goals:
The major aims at cultivating overall-developed talents with morality, intelligence, health and aesthetic values, who would possess solid specialty foundation, wide range of knowledge, strong practical capacity, high overall quality, sense of innovation and pioneering spirit, as well as be equipped with knowledge and skills of financial management, accounting, economics, management and laws. Graduates can develop their careers in enterprises, public institutions, and government departments such as international corporations, conglomerates, banks and bond firms, engaging in financing, investing and fund managing.      
 
  • Public Administration
Students of this discipline study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of administration, management, politics, laws and civil service management, accept basic training of administrative theory research, analysis of public policy, and social survey and statistics, and develop abilities of public administration utilizing various managerial technologies and modern information processing technology. 
Cultivation Goals:
Students are expected to learn principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of public administration, human resources development and political laws, understand current circumstance of modern public administration, and familiarize themselves with measures of public administration, and develop abilities of innovation, organization, coordination, interpersonal communication and presentation. They may develop careers in the Party and government organizations, enterprises and public institutions, and social groups, engaging in management forecast, administration and policy study.    
 

College of Economics
 
College of Economics at YEU is an educational base that cultivates applied professionals in economic field, which precisely meet the need of social and economic development on the West coast of the Taiwan Straits, facing the globalized economic practices. The college currently offers several undergraduate majors, including International Economics and Trade, Finance, Economics, Cameralistics, Economic Statistics and so on, in which nearly 3000 students are currently enrolled. Since the first recruitment of undergraduate students in 1994, the college has produced a large number of qualified talents for the nation, in which graduates, who went on further study in postgraduate programs, were chosen for further development, and passed the civil service exam,  represent a relatively larger proportion. Many graduates from the college are professionally active in fields of banking, trade, finance, insurance and so forth on the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits.
       
The college has been devoted to building a team of teachers that is politically sensitive, professionally proficient, ethically disciplined, educationally adept, and practice-oriented with both knowledge and charisma. Now a reasonably structured teaching faculty of high quality and standard has been developed, which is an integration of professors, associate professors, lecturers, and teaching assistants with different years of teaching experiences.     
 
The college has adhered to a long-term connotative development mode, i.e. optimization, advancement, accumulation, and progress, and has been proactively building key disciplines, featured majors, excellent courses and excellent teaching materials. There are currently several completed and ongoing projects, including provincial featured major development in International Economics and Trade, provincial and college excellent course development in International Trade Theory and Policy, International Trade Theory and Practice, National Tax System, and Macro-Economics.   
 

The college has always insisted on the educational philosophy of integrating into and serving the society. A complete on-campus international business experimental system has been built consisting of labs of banking, international business, finance, insurance, statistics, and ERP. In the meantime, partnerships with several enterprises have also been formed, with several established provincial and college practical teaching bases, such as YEU-Huafu and YEU-Citonghong bases in place. The college is also able to provide students with on-and-off-campus opportunities for practice and future employment, and to fulfill the overall goal of cultivating applied innovative talents. The partnered enterprises are Agricultural Bank of China, Fujian Rural Commercial Bank, Huafu Securities Corporation, Shanghai Liangmao Futures Brokerage Corporation Ltd and so on.

    
Since 2012, under the University’s guidance of strategic thinking to build an internationalized and modern university, the college has built discipline partnerships with University of Bridgeport from the US, and Da-Yeh University and Chung Chou University of Science and Technology from Taiwan. Aiming at active cooperation with overseas and Taiwanese institutions, the college adopts various strategies such as “Going out and Inviting in”, which has had a profound impact on broadening students’ international horizons and enhancing faculty and academic exchange.   
 
  • Economics
Students of Economics study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of political economy, Western economics, econometrics, international economics; and this major provides training of administration, finance and analytical methodology of economics, and equips students with ability to implement economic analysis and practical operation through methodology of quantitative analysis and modern technology.    
Cultivation Goals:
Graduates of Economics are expected to master principle theories, fundamental knowledge, basic skills of economics and international trade. He/She must understand the current development of modern economics, be familiar with the modern analytical methodology of economics, and have the potential to develop a career in many relevant fields of economics, including general economic management, policy research, financial institutions, enterprises and foreign economic and trade sectors, engaging in economic analysis, forecast, project planning, and economic administration.    
 
  • Economic Statistics
Students in this major study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of statistics, accept basic training of theoretical research, applied skills, and computer application, and develop the ability of data processing and statistical analysis. 
Cultivation Goals:
This discipline aims at providing students with principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of statistics, modern economics, management and investment, and knowledge of modern statistical methods and modern computing measures, and developing students’ abilities of economic analyzing, data mining, economic forecasting and decision making. Graduates will be employed by people from government departments, comprehensive statistics departments, finance, trade, and other enterprises and public institutions, and engage themselves in economic statistics, forecast, economic information processing, administration system development, and marketing survey and advisory.
 
  • Finance
Students of Finance study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of banking management, investment, trust insurance, and risk management, and develop strong practical skills that can meet the needs of society and employers through experiment operating, enterprise internships and practice.
Main subjects: Economics, Monetary Banking, International Finance, Financial Marketing, Operation and Management of Commercial Banking, Theory and Practice of Investment Banking, Theory of Central Banking, Investment Theory, Securities Investment and Financial Risk Management.
Cultivation Goals:
Students are expected to master a wide range of solid theoretical foundation of finance, practical competence of financial work, knowledge of domestic and international financial development status, policies and regulations of finance, a strong sense of market economy, and social adaptability. A finance degree helps prepare students for careers in banking, securities, insurance, trusts and other financial fields. 
 
  • International Economics and Trade
Main subjects: Political Economics, Western Economics, Theory and Policy of International Trade, Practice of International Trade, WTO Rules, International Finance, Foundations of Accounting, International Settlement, International Business Communication, Futures Trading, Foreign Trade Process and Documents Practice, and International Trade (Instructed in English).  
In order to better improve students’ perceptual discipline knowledge and practical hands-on skills, this major also offers relevant specialty experiment classes, where students can undertake discipline experiment trainings in well-equipped and functional teaching labs; moreover, there are also established practice bases off campus at enterprises and public institutions, which provide excellent practice and training platforms for students to better engage in the actual professional work.  
Cultivation Goals:
Aiming at accommodating the needs of Talents’ overall development and development in the West-Straits economic area, guided by the University’s motto “Learn to be an honest and upright person; Learn to handle affairs”, this major is designed to give full play to the relative advantage of a provincial featured major and provincial excellent course, to open new teaching channels to cooperate with Taiwanese universities, and to cultivate highly qualified specialists for the nation and society, who would master specialized knowledge of theories, practical professional skills, high professionalism, and practical competence. Graduates who speak fluent English may find careers in international economies and trade, economic or financial management (including banking, insurance, securities, etc), marketing research and analysis, and publicity and planning.        
 
  • Cameralistics
Students in this major study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of finance, fiscal taxation, and relevant financial economics, management and law, accept basic training of ideology and politics, humanistic quality, work ethics, professional skills, verbal communication, and information tools, and develop practical abilities of handling work of finance, taxation, and financial accounting and fiscal taxation matters in enterprises and public institutions. 
Cultivation Goals:
Students are expected to learn principle theories and fundamental knowledge of finance and taxation, and to be equipped with practical skills of fiscal taxation, innovation ability, and communication skills in both Chinese and English. A cameralistics degree helps prepare students for careers in finance, taxation, other economic management organizations, enterprises, public institutions, and social intermediaries, engaging in relevant work of finance and taxation.
 

College of Computer and Information
 
College of Computer and Information at YEU was established in September, 2006, and it currently offers undergraduate majors such as Computer Science and Technology, Electronics and Information Engineering, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation and so forth.
 
The college has a well-equipped and functional experimental and training center covering all experimental courses, which consists of 29 labs, 1 metalworking practice and training base, and 1 electronic process training base. There are 44 rooms altogether for experimental purpose, which occupies an area of 8178 square metres in total and cost 40.39 million RMB to build. These facilities have provided strong support for students’ innovative experiment projects and teachers’ scientific research projects.
 
The college has achieved attention-grabbing results in teaching and scientific research since its establishment. In July 2007, the college’s “Computer Information and Technology Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center” was approved to be a provincial experiment teaching demonstration center by the Provincial Department of Education; in December 2007, “Computer Application Technology” was approved to be a provincial key discipline; in March 2010, “Computer Science and Technology” major was listed as a provincial featured major construction center; in December 2012, “Experiment Teaching Platform for Basic Course of Signals and Systems” was listed as a provincial experiment teaching platform construction center by the Provincial Department of Education. Moreover, on the aspect of teaching reforms, teaching reforms in “Computer Science and Technology” experimental classes initiated in 2008 have been taking bold moves in reformation and innovation of talents cultivation mode, and have achieved satisfying results.           
 
  • Computer Science and Technology
Students in this major study mathematic fundamental theories, foundation of electronic technology, computer organization principles, principles of operating system, data structure, advanced language programming design, principles of compilers, principles of database system, software structure and developing method, and theoretical knowledge and skills of computer network and communication. They accept basic training of computer software design and development, database design and application, and application and practice of computer network technology, and develop capacity for relevant design, research and development, testing and application.  
Cultivation Goals:
This major equips students with solid mathematic foundation, principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of computer science and technology. Students are expected to familiarize themselves with advanced language programming design, software structure and developing method, database principles and application, and computer network and communication. They will gain knowledge of the development frontiers of computer science and technology, and develop proficient English abilities. Graduates may find careers in enterprises, design, scientific research, and administration of computer and related fields, engaging in design, scientific research, production, development, application, and technical management.
 
  • Network Engineering
Students of this discipline study mathematic fundamental theories, foundation of electronic technology, computer organization principles, advanced language programming design, communication principles, computer network and communication, modern switching technology, network engineering, and theoretical knowledge and skills of network communication protocol. They accept basic training of computer software and hardware, website development, website planning, and network security practice, and develop capacity for relevant design, research and development, testing, application and management.  
Cultivation Goals:
This major equips students with principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of computer network technology, and theories and technology of network communication, network project planning, development of network application system, network administration and maintenance, and network security. Students will learn the latest developing trends in the field of network engineering domestically and overseas, and they will develop knowledge and abilities of network engineering technology, computer and English. Careers can be found in enterprises, design, scientific research, and administration, engaging in design, scientific research, development, application, maintenance and administration in the field of network engineering and related industries. 
 
  • Electronics and Information Engineering
Students of this discipline study electronic circuit technology, electronic circuit design, digital signal processing, EDA technology and VHDL, single-chip microcomputer principles and interface technology, communication principles, and theoretical knowledge and skills of computer network communication. They accept basic training of electronic technology, information technology, and application and design practice of network communication technology, and develop abilities of design, development, production, testing and application of electronic information systems. 
Cultivation Goals:
This major equips students with principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of modern electronic technology, information processing, and information communication technology, and knowledge of principles and methods of electronic information application system design. Students will learn the latest developing trends in the field of electronic information domestically and overseas, and they will develop knowledge and abilities of electronic information engineering technology, computer and English. Graduates may explore career opportunities in enterprises, design, scientific research, and administration, engaging in design, scientific research, production, development, application and technical administration in the fields of applied electronic technology, information processing technology, and network communication technology. 
 
  • Electrical Engineering and Automation
Students of this discipline study electronic circuits technology, power electronic technology, power system analysis, motors and drives, electronic relay protection system, electrical control and PLC technology, and theoretical knowledge and skills of automatic control principles. Through practical training of power systems, motors and drives, application and design of automatic control technology, They gain abilities of design, R&D, production, testing and application of electric power system equipment and automatic control equipment.
Cultivation Goals:
This major aims at cultivating applied advanced engineering and innovative specialists, who are equipped with principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of electric engineering technology, power system and automation, and power electronics and power drives. They will also learn the latest developing trends in the field of electrical engineering and automation domestically and overseas, and develop knowledge and abilities of electrical engineering and automation technology, computer and English. Graduates may find careers in enterprises, design, scientific research, and administration, engaging in design, scientific research, production, development, application and technical administration in the fields of power system, autocontrol, and power electronics and power drives. 
 

College of Humanities
 
College of Humanities at YEU was established in July 2007, and it offers undergraduate majors such as Journalism, Advertising, Radio and Television Journalism, Chinese Language and Literature and so forth.
 
The college focuses teaching around students’ practice. On campus, there are four well-equipped labs, including HP lab, Apple lab, photographic lab and audio lab. The college’s teaching demonstration center of news media labs has won the title of Fujian Provincial “the Twelfth Five-Year Plan” College Lab Teaching Demonstration Center. Off campus, the college has signed internship agreements with more than 10 organizations such as Quanzhou Evening News and the Fujian-Taiwan Kinship Museum to provide off-campus internship and practice bases for the students. Meanwhile, the college has also been cooperating with enterprises like Xiamen Unicorn Network Technology Co., Ltd and Quanzhou Louyu Digital Media Co., Ltd, using the technology, experience and advantages from them to solve practical problems.
 
Teachers’ capacity for teaching and scientific research as well as students’ overall qualities have been improving continuously. So far, there are a large number of collective academic achievements by the college’s teaching faculty, including a variety of over 200 published academic papers, 5 sets of academic monographs, several college excellent courses such as Chinese Contemporary Literary Study, Ancient Chinese Literature, Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”, College Chinese and Communications. Students have won several national and provincial awards: third place in National College Students’ Advertising Design Competition, first place in Fujian Provincial College University Newspaper “Outstanding Student Journalist”, excellence award in Straits Photography Competition, excellence award in the 4th Fujian Provincial Professional Design Contest, “Golden Carp Award” in first Xiamen College Microfilms Screening Week (Quanzhou Show), and “Best Original Music Award” and “Microfilm Excellence Award” in Quanzhou College Students’ Microfilms Festival. Add to that, several students from the college made into the eligible list of Fujian Provincial “Learn from Lei Feng·A Good Example around Us”; and one student was elected to be the Vice-Chairman of the 5th China (Fujian) College Media Alliance; 7 students won the title of Provincial “Three-Good Student”, 7 students won the title of Provincial “Outstanding Student Leader”, and 8 students won national scholarships. The college has produced thousands of qualified graduates, whose remarkable performance has won wide acclaim from employers.               
 
  • Journalism
Students of Journalism study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of journalism, communications, news interviews, news writing, news editing, news commentary, online journalism, photojournalism, DV design and production, and Macromedia Dreamweaver editing, accept basic training of implementing methods and techniques applied in segments of news communication process, and develop abilities to practice news communication.   
Cultivation Goals:
Aiming at accommodating the needs of socialist modernization in the 21st century, especially   the particular economic demand of the mass media market in the “West-Straits Economic Area”, this major is designed to cultivate highly qualified and overall-developed specialists with morality, intelligence, health and aesthetic values, who are required to master systematic theories, knowledge and skills of journalism, and to arm themselves with profound humane connotations and scientific knowledge, high ideals, excellent moral integrity, practical competence, and spirits of creativity. They will also be familiar with regulations and policies of news and publicity in China, becoming highly qualified applied talents in news, press, websites and publicity, engaging in editing, reporting, public relations, etc.
 
  • Radio and Television Journalism
Students of Radio and Television Journalism study the principle theories of news communications, accept basic training of news interviews, writing, directing, broadcasting, producing and program hosting in news broadcasting, and develop abilities to practice program planning, interviews, editing and producing in broadcasting television.        
Cultivation Goals:
The aim of this major is to serve the socioeconomic development of Fujian on the West Coast of Taiwan Straits by cultivating overall-developed talents with morality, intelligence, health and aesthetic values, who will master specialized knowledge and skills of radio and television, and will work in radio and television stations of all levels and fields of other cultural media, engaging in program planning, interviews, writing, editing and directing, program hosting and producing.
 
  • Advertising
  • This major equips students with theoretical knowledge and researching methods of advertising, and theoretical knowledge of relevant interdisciplines, and arms them with general abilities of marketing research, data statistics and analysis, marketing planning and creativity, advertising design and copy, sales promotion, direct marketing, public relations, and media planning with individual specialized skills. Moreover, it cultivates students’ ability in grasping the operating procedure of brand communication and enterprise communication, and to meet the urgent demand for brand management talents by various main industrial clusters and society in the “Capital of Brands” Quanzhou and the West-Strait economic area, who would have scientific decision-making ability, executive capability and leadership in brand management, and brand marketing and communication.
Cultivation Goals:
The aim of this major is to cultivate highly qualified applied specialists with overall development in morality, intelligence, health and aesthetic values. Graduates will master social and scientific knowledge of a composite structure, and present abilities of communication and cooperation, organization and coordination, computer application, international communication, lifelong learning, and innovation; they would also develop entrepreneurial skills, Western and Eastern humane connotation, reflecting ability of social concern and a strong sense of social responsibility.   
 
  • Chinese Language and Literature
Main Subjects: Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, Fundamental Course of Composition, History of Chinese Ancient Literature, History of Chinese Modern Literature, History of Chinese Contemporary Literature, History of Foreign Literature, Comparative Literature, Folk Literature, Introduction to Literature, History of Chinese Literary Criticism, Chinese Cultural History, Semantics, Chinese Classical Documentation. This discipline requires in-class and extracurricular assignments with tutorial system to improve students’ abilities of analysis and writing.                  
Cultivation Goals:
Students are expected to have a well-rounded development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetics, a comprehensive grasp of theory of literature and art and knowledge of Chinese language and literature, potentials to continue with postgraduate study in relevant areas, good humanistic literacy, creativity, proficient computer skills, and good practical English. They can find jobs in press and publications, literature and art, higher education, scientific research, enterprises and public institutions, engaging in literary review, Chinese language literature teaching and research, culture and publicity.        

College of Political Science and Law
 
Established in 2007, the College of Political Science and Law at YEU is one of the oldest private institutions nationwide that were privileged to award bachelor degrees of law. The college currently offers undergraduates majors like the Science of Law, etc.  
 
The college has complied with the University’s motto "Learn to be an honest and upright person; Keep your word and work assiduously; Learn to handle affairs in order to gain success ", promoting the spirit of law and persevering at the goal to build the nation into a legal socialist country. The college aims at cultivating talents who are expected to systematically grasp the specialized knowledge of the science of law and sociology, and to familiarize themselves with Chinese laws and the Party’s relevant regulations. Graduates may find careers in government offices, enterprises, public institutions and social groups, especially in national legislatures at all levels, administration offices, civil administration, procuratorial and judicial organs, arbitration agencies, and legal and social service organizations, engaging in work of law and social services.
 
There are excellent college courses such as Economic Law, Civil Law and Criminal law. In terms of teaching activities, based on the enhancement of basic theoretical teaching, teaching methodologies are reflected in the forms of legal clinic, case study, moot court, discussions of difficult cases, and judicial examination resolution, which emphasize the integration of theory and practice, and the link of practice and application. On the aspect of social practice, the college has been continuously developing practical teaching through several procedures such as legal advice, social survey, issue debate, graduation field work and so forth. Add to that, the college  has also signed partnership agreements with several organizations like Quanzhou Luojiang District Procuratorate to provide off-campus practice teaching base for its students.    
 
Students of the college present great organizational competence and excellent performance. There are several students’ associations at the college: YEU’s College Committee of Youth League, the College Student Union, the College Network Studio, the College Debating Society, and the College Legal Clinic. It currently has 2 “Provincial Advanced Classes”, 2 recipients of “Provincial Outstanding Student Leader”, and 3 recipients of Provincial “Three-Good Student”.

Students in this major study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of the science of law, accept training of legal thinking and practice, and develop abilities to analyze problems with juristic theories and methods. They are trained to manage matters and solve problems by applying the law.
Main Subjects: Jurisprudence, History of Chinese Legal System, Constitutional Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Administrative Law and Administrative Litigation Law, Economic Law, Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Right, Civil Procedural Law, Criminal Procedural Law, Contract Law, International Law, International Private Law, International Economic Law, Labor and Social Security Law, and Law of Environment and Natural Resources. 
Cultivation Goals:
Students in this major are equipped with systematic principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of law, economy, management and computer, current status of international laws, and China’s existing legal system. Graduates may find careers in the Party and government offices, enterprises, public institutions, and social groups, engaging in work of justice, prosecution, trial, attorney and legal counsel.

College of Foreign Languages
 
College of Foreign Languages is one of the six colleges at YEU that offers undergraduates English major. The college is also responsible for college English teaching from freshman year to senior year. There are international teachers that teach professional English with imported textbook from overseas to junior and senior students of various majors. The college currently has 69 Chinese teachers and 20 foreign teachers.
 
There are advanced teaching labs and facilities, including 12 audio interactive labs and 16 level testing system labs for spoken English course.
 
The college first started to recruit undergraduate students of English major in 2000, and after over a decade of experience accumulation and hard work, the English major has developed into a dominant speciality that has achieved rigorous scholarship, regulated administration, signature features, excellent learning climate, large enrollment, and high employment rate. Current  academic achievements are 1 provincial excellent course of College English, 2 college key courses, 2 college excellent courses and 1 planned textbook for English major. Teachers and students have won a variety of awards on many occasions: 3 awards for second place in “Foreign Language Teaching Club Cup” National English Teachers’ Teaching Contest (Fujian division), 2 awards for third place, 2 awards for second place, and 1 award for first place in National CCTV Cup English Speech Contest (Fujian division), 1 award for first place in Dr. King Cup English Speech Contest, 2 awards for third place in National College Students’ Interpretation Contest (Fujian division), first place at Southern China division and third place nationwide in the 16th “FLTRP·Amazon Cup" National College Students’ English Debating Competition, and 2 awards for Bronze-prize in “Tianhua Cup” National College Students’ English Debating Contest.

Students of English study the principle theories and fundamental knowledge of the English language, literature, history, politics, economy, diplomacy and social culture, accept basic training of English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, and develop English abilities to translate, research and teach. 
Cultivation Goals:
Students will learn principle theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills of English language, reading, writing, speaking and translating, understand the backgrounds and cultures of major English-speaking countries and the Western countries, and grasp comprehensive knowledge of science and cultures. They may expect to develop careers in foreign affairs, culture, press and publications, education, scientific research, and tourism, engaging in translation, research, teaching and management, or in industrial and commercial enterprises, economy and trade, and overseas Chinese organizations, engaging in marketing and management.
